Bienvenidos al BLOG de Sra. Gose!
Flip Floppers - Welcome! Stay tuned as I learn how to create an inviting web-space!
This BLOG's intent is to keep all Flip Flop Spanish Readers aware of how I conduct my weekly classes, and also to perk them up with the normal goings-on in my little Spanish-learning and teaching world.
Here's a cute anecdote from my Spanish class this past Wednesday:
In class this week (I started a new Beginning Conversation Class for ages 6-12, which is my biggest age range yet!) a little boy, one of the youngest in the class of twelve students, was determined to speak as much Spanish as possible, and so asked me, "Now, I know we say si for yes, and hola for hello, but can you tell me how to say No?"I answered: "No."He was a little upset and said, "But you're the teacher! Who else do I ask?"The class had a good laugh, and when he realized my meaning - No is simply No in both languages, he remarked, "Well THAT was nice of them!"

The 4 to 6 year olds should be fine with this book - The seven to ten year old will definitely need something a little more advanced, but if you look on each lesson page, you can create your own activities from those ideas and keep your two classes on the same Lesson Theme each week, which will help keep your sanity.
If you don't have some already, get some flashcards (there are some good ones on the Flip Flop Spanish website), and hold them up as an end to your lesson - when you don't think they'll sit for even one more minute. You can even let them choose their card, and then go around and have them make a sentence - Como es la vaca? La vaca es blanco y negro...Or just me gusta la vaca, no megusta...etc,
Another GREAT thing is the felt friends - they'll be availalbe within the week, I would expect - and you can do TONS with those - from conversations to describing to feelings etc. Just make sure you don't give too many words at once. Are these going to be weekly classes or daily?
Hope this helps!
Another thought, Ellen - Get your students to purchase their own textbook - I can get you a bulk discount, just let me know what you need - so you're not violating any copyrights by copying - and it saves time as well!
The book is for 3 to 5 year olds, but the 5 to 8 year Old Flip Flop Spanish will be out this summer, so if you continue to teach Spanish classes, that will help.
Also, playing charades for new vocabulary words is a hit at any age!
Do you give incentives in class for correct answers? Little stickers or small things like that during a special part of class is also helpful in pulling those few students who may not be comfortable trying out their Spanish yet in class.
